Avenox Seguros

Insurance in Mexico, explained in English

A policy is a promise to pay when something goes wrong. Our job is to make sure that promise sits with the right carrier, covers what you think it covers, and gets paid when you need it. We compare eleven insurers and we're on your side when there's a claim.

Avenox is an insurance broker in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Jalisco, serving the Lake Chapala expat community. We place major medical, home, auto, life and retirement policies with Mexican carriers including GNP, Allianz, Chubb, MAPFRE, Bupa, Quálitas and Seguros Atlas, and manage claims in English.

Health

Major medical (gastos médicos mayores)
Hospitalisation, surgery and serious illness. We match the hospital network to where you'd actually want to be treated, in Guadalajara or Lakeside, and set deductible and coverage to your budget. Age limits and pre-existing conditions vary by carrier; we tell you which ones will take you.
Minor medical
Day-to-day consultations, tests and prescriptions, as an add-on or a lighter alternative.
International plans
For people who split the year between countries. Bupa and others cover you on both sides of the border.

What we need to quote

  • Name, date of birth and place of residence for each person insured
  • For cars, the registration card (tarjeta de circulación) or title, and the plate
  • For home, address, construction value and contents estimate
  • Your current policy, if you have one, so we compare cover and not just price

Questions we get

Is it cheaper to buy directly from the insurer?

No. Premiums are set by the carrier and are identical with or without an agent. With an agent you get comparison across carriers and a person who handles the claim.

Can I get major medical at 70? At 75?

Some carriers stop accepting new clients in the late 60s; others go higher with conditions. We'll tell you which ones are realistic for your age and health rather than sending you to the one that pays us most.

What happens when I have a claim?

You message us first. We open the claim, gather the documents, and follow it with the insurer until it's paid. That's what the agent is for.

Will my Canadian or US insurance cover me here?

Some travel and international plans do for limited periods. If you live here most of the year, a Mexican policy is usually cheaper and more usable at local hospitals.

Can I pay in dollars?

Premiums are in pesos. Some carriers offer dollar-denominated plans; most people pay in pesos by card or transfer. We help you set it up.

Let's compare your cover

If you already have a policy, we'll review it at no cost. If you don't, we'll tell you what you need and what you don't.
